## 📖Bible Passage
>[!NOTE]+ [[Ps-106#v1|Psalm 106.1]]
>Praise Yahweh! Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.
## Points
- **Who**: Psalm 106 is addressed to God's chosen people who are redeemed by grace through Christ but are still so sinful
- In Psalm 106, we begin and end with [[hallelujah]].
- This is a command for all people to praise Yahweh.
- Yes, Israel was sinful but this does not mean that we cannot learn from them. Quite the opposite.
- [[1 Cor-10#v6|1 Corinthians 10.6]] Now ==these things were our examples==, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
- [[1 Cor-10#v11|1 Corinthians 10.11]] Now all ==these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.==
- the sins of Israel teach us what not to do, and they highlight to us our many sins. We should see ourselves in them. We should see their sins and realize our many sins.
- God's people are sinful and yet God bears with them and forgives them.
- God calls and commands us to praise and thank Him for His great works of grace and power in this world.
- [[Ps-106#v47|Psalm 106:47-48]] Save us, Yahweh, our God, gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to triumph in your praise! Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting! Let all the people say, "Amen." Praise Yah! [[Ps-106#v48|]]
- **Do not forget the things of God**
- **Give thanks for the Lord is good**
- **Give thanks because the Lord's mercy endures forever**
- Psalm 106 is quoted in [[1 Chron-16#v34|1 Chronicles 16:34-36]]
- *Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever. Say, "Save us, God of our salvation! Gather us together and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to triumph in your praise." Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. All the people said, "Amen," and praised Yahweh.*
- This was in the occasion when David recovered the Ark of God into the city of David. But when transporting the Ark, the cart stumbled and Uzzah tried to steady the Ark on the cart. While Uzzah was well meaning, he was breaking God's word and so God struck him dead. ([[2 Sam-06#v7|2 Samuel 6.7]] Yahweh's anger burned against Uzzah; and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by God's ark.)
- [[1 Chron-15#v2|1 Chronicles 15.2]] Then David said, "No one ought to carry God's ark but the Levites. For Yahweh has chosen them to carry God's ark, and to minister to him forever."
- ⭐ From this event we learn that it is not enough to just worship God. **We must worship God in the way that God has established.** We do not have the right or authority to choose how we worship God.
- In the temple we see that God is merciful. He delights to save His children. He delights to have mercy on us and He delights to hear our praises.
- God commands us all to praise and **therefore we should desire that everyone praises Him**
- Like David, Moses also wanted all people to praise God.
- [[Deut-06#v4|Deuteronomy 6:4-6]] Hear, Israel: Yahweh is our God. Yahweh is one. You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; [[Deut-06#v5|]][[Deut-06#v6|]]
- ❓: Is this your desire as well? Do you want people all over the world to praise God? He who alone is worthy of praise!
- God specifically instructs us that **His mighty works must not be forgotten**.
- there are so many examples where people pile stones and create a monument, commemorating God, so that the generations will know God, who He is, and how mighty He is.
- God doesn't command us to discuss the weather, and other things. **God commands us to discuss the things of God**
- Isn't this a sign of the lowly state of our church, that we do this so little? We ought to be discussing God far more.
- there must be a reason why we desire to thank Him and praise Him. It must not be vague.
- 1. We praise Him because He is so gracious to us. So loving and merciful.
- Psalm 105 starts in a similar way, and also calls us all to praise Him and tell others of His majesty.
- [[Ps-105#v1|Psalm 105:1-3]] Give thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name! Make his doings known among the peoples. Sing to him, sing praises to him! Tell of all his marvelous works. Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh rejoice. [[Ps-105#v2|]][[Ps-105#v3|]]
- If God is so good and wonderful, isn't it just reasonable that we ought to tell others? Why wouldn't we do this?
- Amazing Grace. God's grace truly is **amazing**!
- Give thanks to the LORD. How will we do that? It is not just with our lips that we do this.
- We are called to praise Him by His grace.
- [[Ps-107#v1|Psalm 107:1-2]] Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever. ==Let the redeemed by Yahweh say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,== [[Ps-107#v2|]]
## Application
- ❓: Ask yourself before God "**Do we have reason to give thanks to Him**? "
- What a blessing it is to have fruit given to you by God.
- If you do not have such fruit in your life, then tremble and come to Him whom your soul needs.
- **Be thankful for the Lord's mercy**.
- The Lord's mercy is indeed Good News for those who are condemned before God.
- How wonderful it is that we have an advocate in Jesus Christ who pleads our case before God.
- We have no ability to plead our own case. All we can plead is guilty.
- Christ has **redeemed us**. What does that mean? It means that Jesus has paid the price for our sins.
- [[Rev-05#v9|Revelation 5:9-10]] They sang a new song, saying, "You are worthy to take the book and to open its seals: ==for you were killed, and bought us for God with your blood== out of every tribe, language, people, and nation, and made us kings and priests to our God, and we will reign on the earth." [[Rev-05#v10|]]
- He paid the price. He bore the punishment in our place.
- Never underestimate the cost of your salvation. Ponder the Savior. Ponder what He did on your behalf.
- **Why would the eternal Son of God be willing to stand in my place, bearing my punishment?** Because His love is so great and so free.
- God commands us to praise and thank the Lord **for His goodness to us**.
- Can we trace God's work upon our life? God's work not ours. When God sought us. You might say *Oh but I did seek.* But no, you did not and could not seek Him until He changed you, regenerated you and brought you to life.
- We have so much reason to praise Him.
- He has not left us. He has not cut us off. He has not forsaken us.
- May we all praise God from whom all blessings flow.
