  • Throughout the book of Daniel is a theme of peaceful submission to the rulers, even when they are tyrannical, and not God-fearing. There is also a strong theme of courageously following God, even if it disobeys earthly rulers and brings their wrath upon you. Most importantly there is a theme that shows that God truly is the King of Kings and will one day bring about His Own Kingdom which will rule over all other kingdoms and will never end. This was fulfilled in Jesus Christ and His establishment of the church, and this will be ultimately fulfilled when Christ returns.
  • Rather than lead a rebellion against Haman and Ahasuerus, Esther, peacefully petitions her king after imploring her people to fast and pray.
  • On more than one occasion, David had the opportunity to kill king Saul and yet chose not to do it. He did this even though David was anointed by God to be king over Israel. David spared king Saul precisely because Saul was anointed by God to be king. David already had the promise that he would one day be king, but he did not yet have the fulfillment of that promise. But rather than take matters into his own hands, David trusted in the Lord to fulfill His promises on His timing.
