📖Bible Passage

2 Corinthians 12:12-13

Truly the signs of an apostle were worked among you in all perseverance, in signs and wonders and mighty works.
For what is there in which you were made inferior to the rest of the assemblies, unless it is that I myself was not a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong.

Points

  • Paul is embarrassed that he was compelled to defend himself.
    • Paul cites his works as "the signs of an apostle"
      • the purpose of Signs:
      • Signs that Paul performed:
        • Paul raised a man from the dead who fell out a window
  • Why was Paul a minister of Christ:
    • It was not because of his great education
    • It was because he was called by Christ
      • Acts 26:16-18
      • This is not to say that education is not important, nor to say that we want uneducated men in ministry. Rather, it means that education is not the first priority. And unlike education, being called by God is absolutely vital to any minister.
    • He was called by the Holy Spirit
      • Acts 13:2-4 : Paul an Barnabas were chosen by the Holy Spirit to be sent out as missionaries.
    • We should not be merely concerned with if a minister is called but also what are they called to:
      • Galatians 2:7-8 Paul was entrusted to minister specifically to the Gentiles
    • False prophets and preachers are not sent by God
  • We have this idea today that any Christian can be a preacher.
    • This is why some can learn Greek and Hebrew and yet they have no passion and power in their message.
    • We should pray for men called by God to be preachers.
    • 1 Corinthians 3:10-13 : Paul laid the foundation and others built upon it.
      • Be careful how you build.
      • There is one and only one foundation which is Christ.
  • Paul's ministry was a successful ministry
  • Paul's ministry demonstrated the power of God through signs and wonders
    • 2 Corinthians 12:12
    • These demonstrations of the Holy Spirit are for every generation of Christians.
  • Paul's ministry was fortified by the prayer of the saints.
    • Romans 15:30 Paul: "Strive together with other fellow Christians, to pray for me"
    • ⭐: A prayer meeting should not be
      • a time of sleepy headed Christians to gather when they'd rather be somewhere else
      • a time to tell God what He already knows about theology
    • ⭐: a prayer meeting should be:
      • a time to plead with your mighty God to fulfill His promises.
  • Trust in Christ alone for salvation.
