📖Bible Passage

"Hey! Come, everyone who thirsts, to the waters! Come, he who has no money, buy, and eat! Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which doesn't satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in richness. Turn your ear, and come to me. Hear, and your soul will live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. Behold, I have given him for a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander to the peoples. Behold, you shall call a nation that you don't know; and a nation that didn't know you shall run to you, because of Yahweh your God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he has glorified you." Seek Yahweh while he may be found. Call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to Yahweh, and he will have mercy on him, to our God, for he will freely pardon. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways," says Yahweh. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and doesn't return there, but waters the earth, and makes it grow and bud, and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so is my word that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do. For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace. The mountains and the hills will break out before you into singing; and all the trees of the fields will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn the cypress tree will come up; and instead of the brier the myrtle tree will come up. It will make a name for Yahweh, for an everlasting sign that will not be cut off."

Points

  • ❓: where will you turn for hope, joy, and satisfaction in 2025?
    • Let’s make it a year of growing in the grace and knowledge of Christ.
  • Come unto God for true satisfaction by hearing His word.
    • God invites to come to Him and enjoy a feast
    • He invites the poor and hungry
    • His feast is free, unlike the pleasures of this world.
      • Eating at the table of idols is dissatisfying : Isa 44.20
    • His feast is satisfying unlike this world
    • To come unto God is to hear His Word
      • You are invited and commanded to listen
      • God promised an everlasting kingdom to David’s son (Jesus).
  • Seek the Lord now as God calls you to repent
    • We do this by forsaking sin and returning to the Lord daily.
    • Ps 130:3-8 If God kept a record of sins, then who could stand? But there is forgiveness with God.
    • Ps 103:11-12
    • Heb 9.26: Jesus sacrificed Himself once for all.
      • He does not need to resacrifice Himself every time we sin.
    • His grace and mercy are beyond anything we could imagine. But don’t presume on His grace - Spurgeon

    • The grace that does not change my life, will not save my soul. - Spurgeon

    • We should always be aware of the greatness of God. Respect Him. Do not speak flippantly about Him.
  • The LORD provides true joy through His powerful Word:
    • James 1.18 Of his own will he gave birth to us by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
    • 1 Pet 1.23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever.
    • Our mission is to simply proclaim God’s Word. But it is God who works through the Word and saves sinners. Not us.
    • Isaiah 55 depicts a renewed world, with a lifted curse, rejoicing God.
      • This points to the Jews returning from exile to the promise land.
      • And it points forward to Christ’s second coming.

Application

  • Have you come unto the Lord for salvation and hope?
  • Do you daily continue to come unto Jesus feeding on His Word?
  • Are you seeking God daily in prayer?

    • It’s not perfection. It’s direction.
  • Is your greatest joy knowing God in His Word?
