📖Bible Passage

He brought them out with silver and gold. There was not one feeble person among his tribes.

Points

God delivers us by His divine power

  • Thank God that we have been freed from the bondage of sin.
    • The Exodus from Egypt points forward to Christ's leading us out of the slavery to sin. He was our spotless Passover Lamb
    • 1 Corinthians 5.7 Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place.
    • Isaiah 53.5 But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.
    • 1 Peter 1:18-21 knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ, who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake, who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.
  • It is possible to go back to the bondage of sin in Egypt. Satan stirs up dark and dreadful thoughts.
    • "Fiery darts". Temptations. Doubts.
    • Zechariah 3:2-5 Yahweh said to Satan, "Yahweh rebuke you, Satan! Yes, Yahweh who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Isn't this a burning stick plucked out of the fire?" Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the angel. He answered and spoke to those who stood before him, saying, "Take the filthy garments off him." To him he said, "Behold, I have caused your iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with rich clothing." I said, "Let them set a clean turban on his head." So they set a clean turban on his head, and clothed him; and Yahweh's angel was standing by.
  • It is God who led us out of Egypt and spiritual bondage.
    • It is God who loosens the captive.
    • God alone can take away the bondage and depression of the soul.
    • Only the Lord can shine the light of the knowledge of God.
    • NOTE: This does not mean that God cannot use means in order to set captives free. God used Moses and Aaron to lead the Israelites out.
      • The use of instruments does not hide God's power but makes it all the more apparent.
        • Moses was so feeble in speech that he needed Aaron to be his helper.
        • Yet these instruments could not take credit nor even share in the glory for they could not do any of this without God. It is God who worked through them.
    • ⭐: God does not violate the will when a sinner is converted. God does not violate their will, but their very heart is converted.
    • We could never escape the bondage of sin by our own power.
    • Not only this but the slave Israelites were crushed under Pharaoh.
      • When Moses called them to leave Egypt, they refused.
        • In the same way, sinners reject the call of salvation, pleased to continue in slavery. Lacking courage and faith.
    • The power of sin and death in hell is not able to hold in even one whom Jesus Christ has redeemed nor one whom the Father has chosen before time.
      • The loss of even one of them would be too much. It would impugn on His power and faithfulness.

God enriches us when he delivers us

  • God enriches us when we leave the bondage of sin.
    • Exodus 12:35-36 The children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they asked of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing. Yahweh gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. They plundered the Egyptians.
    • God through Moses commanded His people to ask and convinced the Egyptians to give away their possessions.
      • These Egyptians did this because they feared God's terrifying power seen in the plagues.
    • God did not lead His people out in a poverty stricken way but He enriched them greatly.
      • God turned Pharaoh's curse in to a blessing. The more he afflicted them, the more they grew and prospered.
      • Even as the devil seeks to afflict us, God confounds Satan. The more that Satan persecutes God's people, the more God's people cling to God for help.
    • What does man gain by being cast-down by fear, doubt, conviction and anguish? By the grace of the Holy Spirit, he will gain very much.
    • Because we were once slaves under sin, we can now comfort others who are suffering.
      • If you are sad and sorrowful and need comfort look to those who have travelled through affliction. They know and understand your pain. Look for a man of God who has been sobered by his trials, failures and sins and yet has not lost his cheer for God has sustained him.
      • If you are sad and despondent heed this comfort.
        • Your trials are for your enrichment.
        • Earnestly look for how God is providing for you through this affliction.

God strengthens us when He delivers us

  • Psalm 105:37: There was not one feeble person among his tribes.
    • Not even one! This is nothing less than a miracle.
    • There were over a million Israelites, leaving Egypt on a long and arduous journey. Yet there was not even one injured or feeble or sick.
    • Yet later on, in the wilderness, they doubted God and grumbled. They even had the gall to say they'd rather return to slavery in Egypt. It was then that they became feeble from their trials.
    • Today, pray that the Lord will strengthen us all.
    • When we meet together in glory, what a delight it will be that there are no troubles and no sin.
    • Are you hurt and afflicted and feeble? Thank the Lord. For it is better to enter life feeble then to not enter at all.
      • Nevertheless, I pray that the Lord strengthens you.

Application

  • If you do not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, put your trust in Him.
    • In Him is:
      • life for the perishing
      • liberty for the captives
      • joy for the sorrowing
