Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen evil. Let your work appear to your servants, your glory to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us. Establish the work of our hands for us. Yes, establish the work of our hands.

Points

  • Do not fear. You will not meet anything this year for which God's supplies are short.
    • God will provide everything that you need so that He is glorified and your every needs are met.

Satisfy us with your mercy that we may have joy in what you do.

  • Satisfy means to satiate us.
    • A round world will never satisfy a triangular soul.
    • Only the mercy of God will satisfy us this year.
  • The word translated as mercy here is chesed
    • It means that God is a covenant keeping God
    • Sometimes it is translated lovingkindness.
    • It is the trajectory of love of God's heart toward His people.
    • Compassion love, and faithfulness.
    • This chesed can truly satisfy the soul.
  • Our text says satisfy us early (in the morning)
    • This is so that my would not be crushed by the world. by its worries and troubles.
    • The word early here can mean early in life, in childhood.
      • keep our children from wasting their lives in this world in sin.
      • so that we would not only bringing to God the last years of our life, but that we would give our whole life to God.
      • Children, when is the best time to give your life to God. Right now. Whether you are 5 or 4 or 3. You need God, now.
        • Robert Murry McShane's Reason's For Children To Follow Christ:
          • Because life is very short
          • Because life is uncertain
          • most that are saved fly to christ when they are very young
          • it is happier to be in christ than out of Christ.
  • ⭐ I've never heard a Christian say I'm disatisfied in the Lord. I'm sorry I spent so much time seekin the Lord in prayer.
    • Every Christian who has found Christ will tell you there is no joy that compares to the joy found in the Lord.
  • True satisfaction only comes when you turn to Christ for His covenant faithfulness.

God uses afflictions for our good

  • Afflictions humble us
  • God seldom uses someone more than after He has broken them.

  • Afflictions teach us perserverance, trust and reliance on Him.

Let us see your glory saving work in us and in our children.

  • The hebrew word for glory is Kavod. It means weightiness.
    • If you had a statue of pure gold, think of how utterly weighty it would be.
    • Our God is infinitely, overwhelmingly weighty
  • Parents, pray for your children that they would see God and His glory.
  • Children, do you know what is more valuable than all the money in the world? An open throne of grace, so that you can spend the rest of eternity with your Father in Heaven.
    • Matthew Henry: "Blessed are the parents who leave behind for their children a treasury of prayers."

Let your beauty be upon us and our work.

  • The beauty of the Lord is a flood.
  • Throughout your day and life behold the beauty of God.
    • When you go to Niagara Falls you see beauty. It is hard to stand there and not think about God. How beautiful He is!
  • How to see beauty in this world.
    • As a mother, teaching the beauty to my children.
    • As a father, being an example of God's beauty in my work in business by conducting myself with integrity in the midst of a world of cheaters.
  • He establishes the work of our hands for us.
    • Work is a gift and if we see it rightly we see it as for the beauty and glory of God.
      • When the boss is away, the mice do not play, because God is my employer.
      • The world that we live in thanks God that it is Friday. They do not like their work.
        • The Christian ought to say Thank God it is Monday. I get to go back to work, for the glory of God!!
      • Every part of your life ought to glorify God. Everything is for this aim, direction and purpose.
    • John Owen: "By grace, I am still in the land of the living". But then he crossed out living and he wrote "By grace, I am still in the land of the dying, and I hope to be in the land of the living forever."
      • We are on our way to glory. Do not covet temporary things.
