📖Bible Passage

Psalm 106:4-5 Remember me, Yahweh, with the favor that you show to your people. Visit me with your salvation, that I may see the prosperity of your chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, that I may glory with your inheritance.

Points

Three panoramic views of God's people and their blessing

It is as if God is showing us His great city, the city of God's people, and he is taking us to a great height, a peak where we can see a wide panorama of city below. Here we see 3 peaks.

  1. "That I may see the prosperity of your chosen

1. "The prosperity of your chosen people"

  • God's chosen people are diverse, but they all have one thing in common, they are all chosen by God.
    • They were not chosen because they are better than any others, in fact, they were weaker than the others.
    • No they were chosen because He is chosen. He is good. They were chosen in Christ, and because of this they are now the objects of the Father's love.
    • They all have God.
      • Leviticus 26.12 I will walk among you, and will be your God, and you will be my people.

2. That I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation

  • God's Kingdom is greater than any other nation.
    • Genesis 12.2 I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing.
    • Before God's nation was a sinful nation, but now God has redeemed His nation. He has turned them into a holy nation.
      • Isaiah 1.4 Ah sinful nation, a people loaded with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken Yahweh. They have despised the Holy One of Israel. They are estranged and backward.
      • Because His people have been purified by Him, they are filled with gladness.
    • We have been raised from being a wretched lowly beggar to being king unto God.
      • You are a kingdom of priests. You are a kingdom of kings unto God. That is the glory of the Gospel.
  • ❓ We should ask ourselves, Why do I not see this gladness? Why do I still feel unworthy and unfit for God?
    • Even still we have this desire to experience the gladness of God.
    • Like Paul we say that we are sorrowful yet always rejoicing.
    • ⭐ We rejoice because our rejoicing is rooted in Him, not us.

3. "That I may glory with your inheritance"

  • An inheritance, is something that you value. It's something that you care for and want to protect.
  • ❓ Now we should ask ourselves Why would sinful people be the inheritance of God?
    • Here we are told that God's people are His inheritance and His glory!
    • He chose us to be His inheritance.
      • Illustration: God's people are a "fixer-upper". We were a rotting ruined house, in no way lovely, or valuable. It is this broken despicable house that He gave to His own Son. But look at all the time, energy, and resources He put into that rotting house. He demolished the foundation of dead works and the Lord began recreating His inheritance. He laid the chief cornerstone. And He made this place so beautiful. And He sent His own Holy Spirit to live in this home and He sanctified it, cleansed it, filled it, and removed all the rot, and filled it with precious stones. Until at the final consummation He will say Revelation 21.3 "Behold, God's dwelling is with people, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. "
  • What do God's people glory in? Even though they are being made beautiful by Him, they do not glory in themselves.
    • "The bride eyes not her garment, but her dear Bridegroom’s face; I will not gaze at glory, but on my King of grace. Not at the crown He gifteth, but on His pierced hand;"
The Lamb is all the glory of Immanuel’s land."

    • Jeremiah 9:23-24 Yahweh says, "Don't let the wise man glory in his wisdom. Don't let the mighty man glory in his might. Don't let the rich man glory in his riches. But let him who glories glory in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am Yahweh who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth, for I delight in these things," says Yahweh.

Application

Two Persuasive Pleas

  • Psalm 106.4 Remember me, Yahweh, with the favor that you show to your people. Visit me with your salvation,

1. Remember me with the favor that you show to your people

  • Now the question comes How can I, a wretched sinner, be brought into God's holy city?
    • Psalm 106.6 We have sinned with our fathers. We have committed iniquity. We have done wickedly.
    • Throughout Psalm 106, we see again and again that God's people regularly repeatedly forget God, rebel against Him, curse Him and betray Him.
      • Yet our response must be Lord, remember me. Psalm 106.4
      • We should not ask for God to remember me in my worthiness, for we have no worthiness. Instead we should ask God to remember me in your favor.

2. Visit me with your salvation

  • Even when you have no words to ask to God, when you are brought so low that there are no words to pray, you can always pray this prayer, Lord, visit me with your salvation.
    • You may be saying, What is man, and who am I that you should save me? You may be like the centurion who said I am not worthy that you should enter my house.
      • This should be your cry, Visit me, o Lord, with your salvation.
      • What a beautiful, essential prayer!
  • Jesus Christ comes near to us, even now. He is visiting us
    • Revelation 3.20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, then I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me.
  • People will mock you and seek to turn you away from Christ and His church. But it does not matter what people say about you. It matters what God's people say about you. They are precious to Him, and therefore they ought to be precious to you because he is utterly precious.
  • Anecdote: A godly woman said at 95 said I feel like I have only one prayer left: Psalm 106:4-5 Remember me, Yahweh, with the favor that you show to your people. Visit me with your salvation, that I may see the prosperity of your chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation, that I may glory with your inheritance.
    • What a beautiful prayer!
    • When you pray this prayer in faith, the Lord will take you into Heaven.
    • Psalm 106 teaches us that no Christian should be content to live without praising the Lord.
